In a dispute over remarks on the so‑called “lifestyle part‑time” and on the role of Mittelstandsbeauftragte Gitta Connor-Mann (CDU), BVMW chairman Christoph Ahlhaus is facing growing criticism.
After Ahlhaus publicly criticised Connor‑Mann, fifteen business associations joined together in a letter addressed to him. “Bild” quoted the letter, which expressed “great surprise” at the criticism of Connor‑Mann and rejected demands for her resignation. The associations wrote:
> “We highly value Gitta Connor‑Mann’s work and see her on our side, helping to push the necessary-yet currently stalled-reforms”.
The alliance emphasized that, by sending that letter, the BVMW does “not” speak for the German middle‑class. It further stated:
> “The criticism of Gitta Connor‑Mann is incorrect and not goal‑directed”.
