On matchday 20 of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich did not secure a win, ending their visit to Hamburger SV in a 2-2 draw. The tie saw the hosts earn a point, and with Bayern’s recent loss to Augsburg on the league’s final day, their nerves could already be rising.
Hamburg started aggressively and pressed early, creating quick chances. A foul by Joshua Kimmich inside the 31st minute earned a penalty for the guests, which Fábio Vieira calmly converted and left the score at 1-0 in favor of HSV. Although Bayern dominated possession, they struggled to produce clear shots, only stabilising their play toward the end of the first half.
In the 42nd minute, the Bavarians equalised. After a combination through Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane seized a close‑range opportunity; VAR confirmed the goal, and the match headed to the break at 1-1.
Immediately after the break, Bayern surged forward again and took the lead only 43 seconds into the second half. Substitute Luis Diaz finished a pass from Michael Olise – his tenth goal of the season – putting Bayern ahead. Nonetheless, HSV refused to back down. They kept a high work rate, generated several risky moments, and even saw a spectacular last‑ditch save from Alphonso Davies.
The hosts were rewarded again in the 53rd minute. William Mikelbrencis sliced through on the right flank, delivering a precise cross that Luka Vusković met with a header from short distance, making it his fourth goal this campaign and the most prolific for HSV so far. The score was back at 2-2.
The final act remained tense. Bayern endeavoured to re‑establish control but found it hard to finish any clear chances. HSV defended firmly and struck repeatedly on quick counter‑attacks, with both sides making multiple substitutions for fresh energy. Near the end, Harry Kane received a yellow card, while Hamburg swapped players to blunt Bayern’s offensive firepower. The match concluded unchanged at 2-2, a result that mirrored HSV’s strong performance against the league leaders and underscored Bayern’s inability to win cleanly.
With a victory over Heidenheim on Sunday, chasing side Borussia Dortmund stands a chance to close the gap to the champions by six points, while Hamburg moves up to thirteenth in the table.
