4 percent of all employed individuals in Germany worked at least partially from home

Researcher Jean-Victor Alipour noted the stability of this figure since 2022, stating that there is no discernible trend towards employees returning to the office full-time He characterized instances of companies mandating a return to office settings as isolated occurrences, rather than a widespread shift

The survey highlights sectoral variations in remote work adoption The service sector demonstrates the highest proportion of employees working remotely, at 351 percent Manufacturing follows with 157 percent and the trade sector reports 119 percent overall – with wholesale trade at 17 percent and retail at 46 percent The construction industry exhibits the lowest rate of remote work, at just 44 percent

Despite media attention surrounding initiatives encouraging or requiring employees to return to physical workplaces, Alipour emphasizes that remote work is particularly prevalent among younger and rapidly expanding companies “For the employers of tomorrow, home office is already firmly integrated into the culture” he stated, asserting that remote work arrangements are – and will remain – a standard feature of the German professional landscape
