73 % of Germans Say Adding Iranian Refugees Would Overburden the Country, Poll Finds

According to a survey commissioned by “Stern” and RTL, 73 % of Germans say they believe the country would struggle to accommodate more Iranian refugees. The polling firm Forsa asked 1,000 respondents between 19 and 20 March.

Among supporters of the CDU/CSU, 80 % share this view, while nearly all AfD voters-98 %-do as well. Even SPD and Left supporters are largely skeptical, with 63 % expressing concern. In contrast, Green voters overwhelmingly believe the issue will not pose significant problems for Germany.

Forsa had conducted a similar poll last November regarding the admission of additional Ukrainians. At that time, half of all Germans-including CDU/CSU and SPD supporters-stated that the country could handle a larger influx of refugees. Only 89 % of AfD voters expected major problems.
