The German Federal Security Council received an update via telephone on Saturday from Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) concerning his recent trip to Israel and the West Bank.
According to a statement released by government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius, the German government has observed initial, albeit limited, advancements in the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population in the Gaza Strip. These improvements, however, are deemed insufficient to alleviate the existing crisis.
The statement emphasized Israel’s ongoing responsibility to guarantee comprehensive humanitarian supply chains, working in conjunction with the United Nations and other aid organizations. Simultaneously, the German government expressed concern regarding reports indicating that substantial quantities of aid supplies are being retained by Hamas and criminal organizations, hindering their distribution to those in need.
