Speculation surrounding the Christian Democratic Union’s (CDU) candidate selection for the upcoming state election in Saxony-Anhalt is nearing a resolution. Sources within the party have indicated to “Focus” magazine that an official announcement is expected on Thursday at 2:00 PM local time.
A press conference is scheduled to be held at the state party headquarters in Magdeburg. The event will detail the CDU’s personnel strategy for the election.
The identity of the leading candidate remains unconfirmed. It is currently unclear whether incumbent Minister President Reiner Haseloff will seek re-election, or if CDU state chairman Sven Schulze will assume the top candidate position.
