German Party Urges Swift Entry for Afghan Translators & Helpers

A German MP is urging swift action to facilitate the entry of Afghan nationals who have been promised relocation to Germany. Derya Türk-Nachbaur, a foreign policy spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party (SPD), emphasized the importance of upholding commitments to those who previously worked with German organizations. This call comes amid concerns regarding potential deportations of these individuals currently residing in Pakistan.

Türk-Nachbaur stated that security vetting for those already approved for relocation has been completed. She highlighted that these individuals have undergone extensive background checks and continue to face prolonged uncertainty. “Each additional day of delay means a life lived in fear” she commented, advocating for an end to the current hesitation.

The MP stressed the necessity of close communication between German Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Pakistani authorities. She believes maintaining the integrity of established relocation programs is crucial, enabling the swift and safe arrival of these individuals in Germany. Many of those awaiting relocation risked their lives as local staff working alongside German entities.
