A highly anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump took place Friday in Anchorage, Alaska, focused on discussions regarding the situation in Ukraine.
Upon arrival at a military airfield, both leaders disembarked their respective aircraft almost simultaneously, greeting each other directly on the tarmac. In an unexpected move, President Putin then entered the armored limousine known as “The Beast” accompanying President Trump on the rear bench as they proceeded to the designated meeting location.
What was initially planned as a private, one-on-one discussion – with interpreters present – has since expanded to include a broader range of participants. Alongside President Trump, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are taking part. On the Russian side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is among those present.
A press conference is scheduled for 1:30 AM German time. However, the Kremlin has indicated the discussions could extend for up to seven hours, potentially concluding in the early hours of Saturday morning German time.
