Trump’s Ukraine Peace Efforts Praised by European Leaders

European leaders have acknowledged and welcomed efforts by the U.S. President to pursue an end to the conflict in Ukraine and establish a “just and lasting peace.

The statement, released Saturday, came from French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the European Union’s top officials, Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen. They had previously been briefed by the U.S. President on his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

The European leaders indicated their willingness to participate in a trilateral summit including the U.S. President and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They emphasized the importance of providing Ukraine with robust security guarantees to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Leaders affirmed the continued support for Ukraine, maintaining pressure on Russia through ongoing sanctions and economic measures until a “just and lasting peace” is achieved. Ukraine was assured of “unwavering solidarity” in upholding both its own and European security interests.
