Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport, Patrick Schnieder, last travelled by train exactly one month ago. The journey was to Prague for a meeting with his Czech counterpart, a ministry spokesperson confirmed on Monday, responding to a query from the news agency dts. Eurocity trains operate several times daily between Berlin and the Czech capital, jointly run by the German and Czech railway companies.
The spokesperson also indicated that the Minister’s next rail journey is imminent. Schnieder is scheduled to conclude a press summer tour on Thursday with a joint train trip from Gerolstein towards Cologne.
Last week, the Minister announced a forthcoming change in leadership at Deutsche Bahn. The current CEO, Richard Lutz’s contract, which runs until 2027, is to be terminated prematurely by mutual agreement and the search for a successor is already underway. No details have yet been disclosed regarding severance arrangements for Lutz. The Federal Government has indicated that the supervisory board is now responsible for the matter.
