A fire-fighting module originating from Bonn, Germany, comprising personnel from North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and other cities, has arrived in San Sebastian, Spain. The Bonn Fire Department announced the deployment on Tuesday. The convoy of 21 vehicles paused overnight in the greater Paris area during its journey south.
While in France, additional fire-fighters from Lower Saxony joined the unit, adding two further tank fire engines, bringing the total team size to 67 individuals. Two leadership personnel travelled ahead to Madrid as an advance team to coordinate deployment specifics with local authorities. The unit is scheduled to relocate to the Extremadura province on Tuesday to combat an active wildfire.
Alongside the German contingent, two French units are already on site. A Finnish vegetation fire-fighting module is en route and a Slovakian fire-fighting helicopter is expected to be deployed in Extremadura.
