Kyiv – Following a Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, which included strikes on the government headquarters, Mayor Vitali Klitschko has cautioned against a further escalation of the conflict by Russia.
Speaking to Bild, Klitschko stated that the attack carries a clear political message from Moscow. He emphasized what he perceived as a deliberate targeting of a government building, noting that it was the first such attack on a governmental structure in Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Klitschko suggested the targeting, specifically the strike on the Cabinet of Ministers building – from which smoke was observed rising on Sunday morning – signifies a shift in tactics. He expressed concern that the action, previously considered a potential “red line” is evidence that President Putin is unwilling to pursue diplomatic solutions and is intent on increasing the intensity of the ongoing war, a position that the international community must recognize.
