The hosts took an early lead, with Alex Grimaldo converting a direct free kick in the 10th minute. Patrik Schick extended Bayer Leverkusen’s advantage just before halftime, successfully converting a penalty awarded in the fourth minute of added time.
Frankfurt demonstrated improved performance after the interval and managed to narrow the deficit in the 52nd minute, with Can Uzun heading in from a corner.
