Baerbock Supports Potential Blue Helmets in Ukraine

The current President of the United Nations General Assembly and former German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, has voiced support for a potential UN peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, contingent upon the success of peace negotiations.

Speaking to “Bild am Sonntag” Baerbock stated that such missions are “needed more than ever before, not only with regard to the European continent”. She emphasized the importance of securing any future peace agreement, suggesting that the deployment of blue helmets could be a durable solution if supported by a majority of member states.

Baerbock underscored however, that the necessary precursor to any such deployment is the commencement of meaningful peace talks. Her comments highlight the growing discussion around post-conflict stabilization efforts in the region.
