Germany’s current economic performance is significantly influencing the nation’s energy consumption, according to the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche. Addressing RTL and ntv, Minister Reiche attributed the current shortfall in electricity demand to decisions made by the previous governing coalition.
She stated that industrial output has already declined by 20 percent, a trend clearly reflected in the reduced demand currently observed on the electrical grid. This, she suggested, is indicative of an ongoing economic downturn.
The former government, according to Reiche, had predicated its energy planning on projections of a doubling of electricity production. This assessment, she characterized as unrealistic. The current administration is now forecasting a rise in energy demand, albeit at a less dramatic rate than previously anticipated. This revised outlook, the Minister explained, is intended to contribute to more efficient management of energy costs.
