The Deutschlandticket, a popular nationwide public transportation pass, is expected to increase in price again starting in the new year. Following a meeting of state transport ministers in Munich, a new price point of €63 has been agreed upon. This follows a previous price increase at the beginning of 2025, which raised the fare from €49 to €58.
Speculation regarding a potential price adjustment had circulated in recent days, with projected ranges between €62 and €64 being discussed. Currently, the federal government and the individual states share the cost of the ticket, each contributing €1.5 billion annually, as ticket sales alone do not cover the expenses. A long-standing debate surrounds the future financing model for the program.
It remains unclear whether this agreement on the price increase will resolve the ongoing dispute regarding the program’s long-term financial sustainability.
