Official data released Tuesday by the Statistical Federal Office (Destatis) reveals mixed trends in road traffic incidents during July 2025. Preliminary figures indicate approximately 36,700 individuals sustained injuries in traffic accidents, a figure closely mirroring the 36,600 reported in July 2024.
A positive development saw a decrease in traffic fatalities, with the number falling by seven to reach 281. Police registered a total of 219,000 road traffic accidents throughout July, representing a slight increase of one percent, or 1,700 incidents, compared to the same period last year.
Reviewing the period from January to July 2025, police recorded approximately 1.4 million road traffic incidents. This represents a marginal decline of around one percent compared to the equivalent period in 2024. Within this timeframe, 169,000 accidents involved personal injury, reflecting a one percent rise, equivalent to an additional 1,400 incidents. Tragically, 1,593 people lost their lives during this seven-month period, a fractional increase of eight people, or one percent, signifying a grim statistic when compared to the year prior. The number of injuries reported remained largely unchanged at 211,000.
