The supervisory board of Deutsche Bahn has confirmed Evelyn Palla as the new CEO of the national rail operator. The appointment, reported by “Der Spiegel” citing sources within the board, follows earlier indications of opposition from the railway union, EVG.
Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) had previously presented Palla as his preferred candidate, emphasizing the appointment as a “new beginning” for Deutsche Bahn. Schnieder described her as the “best candidate” to emerge from the selection process, highlighting her existing familiarity with the company’s internal workings. He specifically noted her successful management of the Regio division since 2022.
Responding to the confirmation, Palla stated that quality would be her “top priority” within Deutsche Bahn. She underscored the importance of passenger satisfaction and committed to fostering a new quality culture within the DB group, stating that it will be a key focus of her leadership.
Palla joined the Deutsche Bahn group in 2019 and has served as a member of the management board since July 1, 2022, concurrently holding the position of CEO of DB Regio. Prior to joining Deutsche Bahn, she held leadership roles within the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and at energy company Eon.
