Xiaomi to Launch Electric Cars in Europe, Starting in Germany

Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone giant, is accelerating its entry into the European automotive market, targeting a launch by 2027 and identifying Germany as a pivotal initial focus. The company has established a research and development center in Munich, staffed by over 50 specialists, a move confirmed by a Xiaomi representative.

Currently, the Munich team is undergoing significant expansion, reflected by the availability of over 20 open positions for automotive and software engineers on LinkedIn. These roles include specialists tasked with navigating the complex process of securing vehicle approvals within Germany and the European Union, suggesting a serious commitment to regulatory compliance.

The strategic establishment in Munich represents a key phase in Xiaomi’s international automotive strategy. The company has already achieved considerable success in China, with its SU7 electric vehicle model surpassing 300,000 sales. According to a Xiaomi spokesperson, Munich offers “immediate access to decades of experience – from high-performance dynamics and EV architecture to stringent process and validation standards”. The company also intends to cultivate partnerships with German universities and industry partners to further bolster its automotive development and market entry efforts.
