Government salaries for the Federal President, Chancellor and federal ministers are set to increase by a total of 5.8 percent, according to information released by the Federal Interior Ministry.

The raises are a consequence of this year’s collective bargaining agreement reached between employers and unions in the public sector, encompassing both federal and municipal employees. The agreement, finalized in April, stipulates salary adjustments for both workers and salaried employees.

The salary increases will be implemented in two phases. A 3 percent rise will take effect retroactively to April 1st. Subsequently, a further increase of 2.8 percent is scheduled for May 2026.

The cumulative effect of these adjustments will see the Federal President’s monthly salary increase by €1,350 to approximately €24,300. The Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, will receive a rise of €1,220, bringing his monthly remuneration to roughly €21,900. Federal ministers’ salaries will see an increase of €980, to around €17,600 per month.
