Germany Hints at Gaza Deal & Hostage Release Next Week

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has expressed cautious optimism regarding a potential resolution to the hostage crisis in Gaza and a ceasefire. Speaking in Jerusalem on Monday afternoon during an interview with “Bild” and other Axel-Springer media outlets, Wadephul indicated that a preliminary agreement – encompassing a ceasefire, the release of hostages and humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip – could be reached within the coming week.

The Minister characterized the progress as encouraging, stating, “We are on a really good path”. However, he emphasized the necessity of the complete release of all hostages. “We want all hostages freed now. Hamas needs to understand this” Wadephul stated firmly.

He also addressed regional actors, urging them to seize the opportunity and convey to Hamas the seriousness of the situation and the potential consequences of failing to comply with the demands for the release of all hostages.
