German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) reaffirmed Germany’s support for Denmark and Greenland during a brief meeting on Tuesday. The chancellor was on the sidelines of a media event in Berlin when he joined Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s Premier Jens‑Frederik Nielsen to exchange views.
According to a government spokesman, Merz again pledged Germany’s solidarity to both Denmark and Greenland. He reiterated that, as a European NATO ally, Germany would intensify its contributions to security in the High North within the NATO framework-a goal he described as a shared transatlantic interest.
