On Thursday EU foreign representative Kaja Kallas announced that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard will be added to the European Union’s terrorism list.
She wrote on social media that repression “must not be left unanswered”.
EU foreign ministers have now taken the decisive step to classify the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization, noting that a regime that kills thousands of its own citizens is steering toward its own collapse.
The Revolutionary Guard is a component of Iran’s armed forces and is regarded as the country’s most powerful institution. It is seen as playing a central role in suppressing protests. Human‑rights network HRANA has recently counted more than 6,000 deaths, with over 17,000 additional suspected casualties still under investigation. Time Magazine estimates that on January 8 and 9 alone the regime may have killed about 30,000 people.
