Greens Demand Heating‑Law Reform Details Before Rhineland‑Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg Elections

Fraunhofer Brantner, chair of the Greens, has called on the federal government to submit key points for a reform of the Building Energy Act by the end of the month-just before the state elections in Rhineland‑Palatinate and Baden‑Württemberg.
“I expect the black‑red coalition to present its points before the next Bundestag session” Brantner told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland. She added that the entire construction sector is “deeply unsettled” noting that countless craft businesses have been waiting for almost a year for clarity on how the legal framework and funding will proceed.

Municipalities need a clear signal on the future of local heat planning. Brantner criticized that Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has spent years campaigning against German‑made technologies and, along with CSU leader Markus Söder and CDU general secretary Carsten Linnemann, has advocated the abolition of the Act. “It can’t be that there is no plan whatsoever in the cabinet about how to achieve this repeal” she said.

The coalition had promised to deliver the reform outline by the end of January, but that deadline has passed. The next state elections take place on March 8 in Baden‑Württemberg and on March 22 in Rhineland‑Palatinate.
