JP Morgan Forecasts 2026 as the “Year of Mega Deals” Fueled by Low Rates, Stable Interest, and a Global Takeover Surge

JP Morgan’s Co‑Head of Global Banking, Filippo Gori, told the German daily “Handelsblatt” that the global market is now primed for a surge of large take‑overs. He pointed to two landmark deals that have revived the mega‑merger momentum: Electronic Arts’ $55 billion sale to a private‑equity group and Netflix’s $72 billion purchase of Warner Bros., both closing at the end of 2025. “This momentum is here to stay” Gori said. “We believe 2026 will be the year of mega‑deals, and our pipeline is fuller than ever”.

According to Gori, the rise in interest for big transactions stems from several factors. Financing conditions for companies and institutional investors are at their most favorable in recent memory, and the interest‑rate environment in both Europe and the United States remains stable, providing planners with security. Moreover, firms across many regions have grown accustomed to geopolitical uncertainty and now see it as no longer a barrier to executing acquisitions.

In the United States, Gori expects even more take‑overs, partly driven by President Donald Trump’s policies. “Many U.S. firms are eager to act because of the administration’s pro‑business reforms, and they are considering deals that were previously dismissed as unlikely” he explained. Gori also predicts a wave of consolidation within Europe, stressing that the continent needs larger players to compete globally in sectors such as technology, defense, and infrastructure.
