Chocolates +17..8%, Flowers +5.3%, Dining +3.6%

During the last year, many traditional Valentine’s Day presents have risen in price. According to Germany’s Statistical Office (Destatis) on Friday, February 14, chocolate prices went up by 17.8 % in 2025 compared to 2024, while cut‑flower costs climbed 5.3 %. Those who chose to dine out instead of delivering sweets or blossoms also faced higher costs: meals and drinks in restaurants, cafés, bars and similar venues were 3.6 % pricier in 2025 than the previous year. For context, the overall consumer price index in the same period increased only 2.2 %.

Looking at a longer time frame, the price rises have been even more pronounced. From 2020 to 2025, chocolates cost 41.7 % more, cut flowers 38.2 % more, and dining‑out items 31.8 % more. In that five‑year span, general consumer prices overall surged 21.9 %.
