Ines Claus Campaigns for More Women in the CDU, Seeks Deputy Chair, Pushes Digital Town‑Halls to Boost Participation

Hessian CDU politician Ines Claus, who is running for the position of deputy federal chair, has urged her party to make it easier for women to get involved at the local club level.
Claus told the Friday edition of the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” that “one thing is clear: we need more women in parliaments”. She believes the fastest way to achieve that is to field strong constituency candidates who can win votes on the ground. In that context, she said making evening meetings available online would be a first step to enable women, especially mothers, to participate.

She added that “more women in the CDU will also improve our election results”. While visible female politicians are important, she contended that better policies emerge when half the society sits at the table. According to her, relying solely on party lists will not bring enough women into parliament.

Claus also called for a closer collaboration between the party and churches, noting that “the ‘C’ in CDU does not stand for nothing”.
At the upcoming CDU congress in Stuttgart next week, the deputy chair of the CDU state parliamentary group in Hesse plans to be elected as one of the six deputies of party chair and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. No opposition candidates have been announced yet.
