In the Bavarian state parliament, the AfD party is demanding that gas storage facilities be nationalised. The low fill levels of the storage tanks in Bavaria and the sustained high wholesale gas prices are already considered alarmingly serious, so the AfD urges the CSU‑led state government to take action at the federal level and secure a transfer of the Breitbrunn gas storage from the federally owned Uniper SE to the Free State of Bavaria. “Only through this transfer can strategic control over the facility’s operation, refilling and readiness be ensured” Oskar Lipp, the AfD’s industry‑policy spokesman in the state parliament, said on Friday.
Furthermore, the party proposes that Bavaria examine the possibility of acquiring the Wolfersberg gas storage outright or, at the very least, of taking a substantial share in its ownership. The goal is the same: to place filling, operation and strategic deployment under state control in order to guarantee long‑term supply security.
