Deutsche Bahn Blames Cyberattack for Nationwide IT Outage

The latest disruptions to Deutsche Bahn’s information and booking systems have been attributed by the company to a cyber‑attack. Following a DDoS assault on the railway’s IT infrastructure yesterday afternoon, the group announced on Wednesday that both the website and the DB Navigator app were once again available to all passengers. It added that the defensive measures “activated” and helped keep the impact on customers “as minimal as possible”.

Despite this, the company said that from the afternoon onward there were temporary restrictions on the information and booking services. An earlier outage had already been reported on Tuesday. In the evening, management initially stated that the systems were “mostly stable” but the service fell again into disarray on Wednesday morning.
