The Greens have urged the Federal Cartel Office to intensify its investigation into the recent price jumps at German petrol stations. Michael Kellner, the Green party’s spokesperson on energy policy in the Bundestag, warned in the Wednesday edition of the “Rheinische Post” that prices at service stations are still rising and that this could signal the start of a price spiral. “It is the responsibility of the Cartel Office to examine whether the price increases are justified” Kellner added, referring to his former role as Minister of Economics. The Federal Cartel Office has already established a market transparency unit several years ago that routinely monitors fuel prices.
