US Military Build‑Up in Iran Threatens Regional Catastrophe and a Stronger Regime..

Former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, member of the Greens, sharply criticized the ongoing US military operation in Iran. “Trump did not think this through to the end” Fischer told the “Handelsblatt”. Washington’s goal may be a regime change, but according to Fischer, the administration has no post‑conflict plan.

Fischer, who served as Foreign Minister of the red‑green coalition under Chancellor Gerhard Schröder from 1998 to 2005, compared the situation to Libya. He warned that if Iran descends into a civil‑war‑like scenario, it could spark a “humanitarian and power‑political catastrophe” that would radiate across the entire Middle East and Near East region.

At the same time, Fischer cautioned that should the regime survive the war, it would emerge “stronger than ever” accelerating its nuclear ambitions.
