Greens Tie with CDU at 56 Seats Each, SPD Scrapes In, AfD Gains 35

The Statistical State Office of Baden‑Württemberg announced the provisional final results of the state election during the night before Monday. In terms of seats, the outcome is a draw: the Greens and the CDU each secure 56 seats, the SPD gains 10, and the AfD takes 35.

According to the second‑vote totals, the Greens lead with 30.2 %, followed closely by the CDU at 29.7 %, and the AfD at 18.8 %. The SPD manages to enter the parliament with just 5.5 %. The FDP falls short, achieving 4.4 % in its traditional stronghold and becoming the first party there to fail the 5 % threshold. The Left similarly misses the threshold, preventing a hoped‑for first entry into the Baden‑Württemberg legislature.

Other smaller parties that did not win seats include the Free Voters (1.9 %), the BSW (1.4 %), the Animal Protection Party and Volt (each 0.9 %), the satirical party “Die Partei” (0.4 %), “dieBasis” (0.3 %), and BündnisC, Werteunion, ÖDP, and PDR (each 0.2 %).

Voter turnout stood at 69.6 %.
