Gordon Schnieder, the CDU’s top candidate for the Rhineland‑Palatinate state election, says he is moving into the final phase of the campaign with great optimism. He told the “Rheinische Post” (Wednesday edition) that the outcome of the SPD vote in Baden‑Wuerttemberg “shows clearly how far the party has moved away from many workers and frontline employees”.
Schnieder added, “A similar picture is also emerging here in Rhineland‑Palatinate”. He believes the Union has stronger concepts on issues such as education, health, economics and security. The party will therefore be “clearly campaigning for both votes for the CDU” he said, before the ballot on March 22.
“Every vote counts in the end” Schnieder noted, citing the Baden‑Wuerttemberg result as evidence that even a single vote can matter.
Just twelve days before the state election, Schnieder will face SPD Minister‑President Alexander Schweitzer in a televised debate on Tuesday evening.
