A powerful storm is currently approaching the Canary Islands and is expected to bring heavy rainfall over the weekend. Renowned meteorologist Jörg Kachelmann has warned that the precipitation could be of a magnitude not seen in “human memory” in a short span of time. He advises residents and visitors to stay in safe, sheltered locations from Friday through Sunday, especially in the western part of La Palma, as well as the southern areas of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The weather spell will also affect Madeira, another popular destination for tourists. Rain is expected to persist for several days, with conditions likely improving only in the following week. In mountainous regions, the heavy downpour raises the risk of landslides and mudslides, and flooding is anticipated in many places.
