The European Council called for a moratorium on attacks against energy and water facilities in the Middle East, expressing regret over the loss of life and noting the far‑reaching effects of the fighting on economic stability.
It condemned the indiscriminate military attacks by Iran on neighboring countries, urging that the EU stand in solidarity with the affected states. The Council welcomed the member states’ announced intensified efforts to secure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, but made clear that these measures would only be effective once the necessary conditions are met. In that context, the EU states rejected the immediate intervention in the Gulf that was requested by US President Donald Trump, insisting that all hostilities must first cease.
Regarding the rising energy prices, the Commission was urged to propose suitable measures if necessary, though no specific actions were outlined in the conclusions released on Thursday evening.
