Siemens CFO Ralf Thomas asserts AI doesn’t endanger the firm’s model and eyes new acquisitions as he hands over the finance role on April 1.

The outgoing CFO of Siemens, Ralf Thomas, says the company’s business model is not threatened by Artificial Intelligence. In a recent interview with the “Handelsblatt” (Tuesday edition), Thomas explained that software is not a monolithic category. “We don’t just pull from a reservoir of known knowledge; instead we create something new through creative, shaping processes” he said.

He added that questions such as how to develop the next semiconductor still lie outside the reach of AI. Over the past few years, Siemens has acquired dozens of software firms for billions of euros. According to Thomas, those acquisitions have reached their intended goals, and all of them “retain value”. The group is now actively seeking further targets to acquire.

Thomas will hand over the key finance portfolio to board colleague Veronika Bienert on 1 April.
