FDP’s Christian Dürr Seeks Re‑Election, Faces Internal Challenger Henning Höne Before May Party Congress

After Henning Höne announced his bid for the FDP’s chair, the incumbent leader Christian Dürr remains determined to stand for re‑election at the party Congress at the end of May. Dürr told Der Spiegel, “I am offering a different vision for the FDP: an optimistic reform force with a clear market‑economy orientation”. He added that the party has succeeded whenever it placed the pressing issues of its time at the heart of its work, responding with classic liberal answers. “In the 1970s these were important social‑political achievements. Today, it is plainly the economic concerns of millions of people”.

Earlier this week, the FDP’s federal board-led by Dürr-decided to collectively resign at the upcoming Congress, while several members would still run again for positions at that same meeting.
