SPD Urges Union to Compromise After Klingbeil’s Reform Speech, Warns Against “Thinking Bans”

After calling for a reform surcharge, SPD leader and finance minister Lars Klingbeil urges the governing coalition to show willingness to compromise. “I no longer expect no‑think bans from the coalition partner, but clear and necessary reforms for our country” said parliamentary chief of staff Dirk Wiese in a statement to the “Rheinische Post” Friday edition.

Wiese praised Klingbeil’s strong, forward‑looking, reform‑ready speech as a principle for a modern Germany. He further said that the SPD is now ready to work soon with the Union to reach an overall package.
