Trump Issues Ultimatum to Europe Over Strait of Hormuz Security Cooperation

Amid escalating tensions over the military security of the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump appears to be increasing pressure on Europe. According to reports from Spiegel, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte allegedly informed European capitals following his visit to the White House that Trump expects concrete commitments within the next few days regarding the dispatch of warships or other military capabilities from Europe. Therefore, mere political statements of intent are no longer sufficient. Following his meeting with Rutte, Trump reiterated his criticism of NATO partners. On his social media platform “Truth Social” he wrote, “NATO was not there when we needed it, and it will not be there when we need it again”. Furthermore, he brought up the dispute over Greenland again, which has caused strains within the military alliance in recent months.
