CDU foreign policy expert Norbert Röttgen stated that the US Navy’s planned naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, announced by US President Donald Trump, is long overdue. In an interview with the “Rheinische Post” on Monday, Röttgen asserted that it is essential for the United States and nearly the rest of the world that the Iranian regime does not maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. According to Röttgen, it is overdue for the US to cut off the regime’s use of the strait and the indispensable revenue derived from it. He added that Iranian oil primarily goes to China, creating a strong incentive for China to advocate for free passage through the Strait of Hormuz as well.
