The CDU parliamentary group leader, Jens Spahn, gave a public show of support to the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche, during a faction meeting on Tuesday. According to attendees reported by the “Rheinische Post” Spahn stated that Reiche’s clarity was appreciated. He noted, “Over the last two or three weeks, there have been personal attacks, including within the ranks of our coalition partner, especially regarding energy policy”.
Spahn further emphasized internally that some people are attempting to overturn the entire energy policy while also referring to market-based principles. He added that anyone who confronts this approach from within the coalition partner’s party can rely even more on their support.
Specifically, Spahn thanked her, saying, “Thank you for your work. We have to expand renewables in energy policy, but above all, we must keep it affordable, and you are doing that”.
