Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU) plans to raise the contribution assessment ceiling in the statutory health insurance. This information, reported by the “Gesundheit” newsletter from “Politico” originates from the draft text for the “GKV-Beitragssatzstabilisierungsgesetz” (Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Rate Stabilization Act). According to the draft, dated April 16th, the monthly assessment ceiling will also see a one-time increase of approximately 300 euros in 2027. The proponents argue that this measure strengthens contribution equity and generates a collective contribution from employers and individuals with higher incomes for the reform package. Currently, the contribution assessment ceiling stands at 69,750 euros annually, or 5,812.50 euros per month. The document estimates that this change will flow an additional 2.4 billion euros into the statutory health insurance, with contributions expected to be paid equally by employers and insured persons. However, this plan is not expected to be unanimously supported within the governing coalition. Simone Borchardt, the health policy spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, stated on Wednesday that the CDU/CSU “conclusively rejects” the proposal when asked about a possible increase in the contribution assessment ceiling.
