Amid rising energy and fuel costs, Deutsche Bahn intends to provide a measure of price stability for its customers. Evelyn Palla, the CEO, announced to the “Bild am Sonntag” that the pricing for long-distance tickets for the coming year will be frozen.
The company stated that this initiative aims to ensure planning certainty for travelers amidst current uncertainties in the energy market. “Starting May 1st, we will keep ICE ticket prices stable for an entire year. We are providing security and stability for everyone who needs to stay mobile” Palla explained.
This early decision marks a deviation from the rail giant’s typical tradition, as the state-owned company usually announces price adjustments closer to autumn. This marks the second time that ticket prices have remained unchanged during Palla’s leadership. Previously, in October, the Bahn had already decided to waive increases on flexible and discounted fares.
Palla directly linked this price guarantee to the company’s ongoing transformation and restructuring efforts. She emphasized that the company’s “relaunch” means taking on greater responsibility and setting new priorities. “Our highest priority now is to run the trains and ensure that people across Germany can continue to afford travel. The railway remains the anchor of stability during uncertain times” she concluded.
