Amid the global shortage of kerosene caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Peter Gerber, the CEO of the German airline Condor, has called for a six-month suspension of emissions trading.
Speaking on Sunday during the ARD program “Report from Berlin” Gerber suggested this would be the simplest way to protect consumers from high prices during the second half of the year. He stated that this measure could easily remove speculative fuel pricing from the market, potentially leading to a much calmer summer for everyone.
Alternatively, Gerber also suggested that airlines should receive a fuel discount, a measure that has been demanded by airport associations. He commented that this subsidy “would have been appropriate” suggesting that if it was an oversight, the federal government should rectify the situation.
