SPD Supports Consolidating Health Insurance System to Streamline Germany’s Healthcare Landscape

a restructuring of the statutory health insurance system designed to reduce the number of individual funds.. Speaking to Bild, Pantazis stated that the “funds landscape must be streamlined” adding that the core proposal had his full backing.

Linnemann’s plan aims to drastically reduce the number of health funds from their current 93 down to between ten and twenty. Pantazis argued that consolidating services among fewer, larger insurance funds would allow fundamental reforms within the health system to be implemented more effectively.

Beyond this structural change, Pantazis indicated that further measures are necessary. He pointed out that the current financial contributions from the funds are below average and recommended that the minimum size for a statutory health insurance fund should be at least 1.5 million insured people.
