Green Leader Slams Centre-Right Government for Lack of Reform and Future Vision

Franziska Brantner, the co-leader of the Green Party, has criticized the current coalition governments, alleging they lack reform dynamism and necessary future orientation. Speaking on Monday during the ntv program “Pinar Atalay” she stated that while the country might be managed, it is failing to actively shape its future. Even though the current colorful coalition has faced internal disputes, she believes it remains underperforming compared to expectations.

Brantner argued that the parties-specifically referencing the SPD and CDU-should move past assigning blame and adopt a different, more constructive approach. According to her, the focus must shift to addressing how Germany can work together to recover from its current difficulties. She stressed that political decision-making should not be based on opinion polls or “chancellery ratings” but instead guided by concrete needs and tasks for the nation. She emphasized that only by focusing on shared objectives can a collective basis for action be re-established, criticizing the current political climate for undermining public trust.

Despite her critiques, Brantner affirmed the Green Party’s commitment to cooperation on specific projects. She stated that the party is preparing strong concepts and is ready to continue presenting them to the government. She offered support for key state initiatives, including modernization, digitalization, and infrastructure improvements, and even expressed openness to constitutional amendments. While assuring that they are ready to help where it makes sense, Brantner firmly cautioned that replacing the ruling government is not the Green Party’s responsibility.
