CNN Founder Ted Turner Dies at 87, Remembered for Global News Revolution and Media Influence

The news channel announced the passing of CNN founder Ted Turner at the age of 87.

Turner’s professional career saw him launch CNN on June 1, 1980, pioneering the first 24-hour news program in US cable television. He continued to expand his influence globally in 1985 with the launch of “CNN International” establishing a massive presence in worldwide news reporting. Furthermore, Turner was active in the professional wrestling business, where he owned “World Championship Wrestling” (WCW). However, he left the industry in the early 2000s after the time the competitor WWF (now WWE) acquired WCW.

Regarding his personal life, Turner was married three times and fathered five children; all three marriages ended in divorce. He was with Judy Nye from 1960 to 1964 and spent time with Jane Shirley Smith from 1965 to 1988. Most notably, Turner was married to actress Jane Fonda from 1991 to 2001.
