This marks an increase of 2.9 years compared to 1991, when the average age was 31.0 years.
The statistics also reveal that both parents are having children later in life. In 2024, the average age of mothers giving birth was 31.8 years, showing a marked difference of 2.9 years compared to the 1991 average of 27.9 years.
Breaking down the progression across births, Destatis provided detailed averages. For first children, fathers in 2024 averaged 33.3 years, compared to 30.4 years for mothers. As maternity and fatherhood progressed, the average ages increased: fathers averaged 35.4 for the second child and 36.6 for the third. Similarly, mothers averaged 32.5 years for the second child and 33.5 years for the third.
