Trump Arrives in Beijing for High-Stakes Talks with China Over Trade and Middle East

President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for his highly anticipated state visit. He was greeted by Chinese officials on Wednesday evening, an arrival accompanied by a ceremony featuring 300 young Chinese people waving both Chinese and US flags.

During his trip, Trump is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday and Friday. According to Trump, his aim is to convince Xi to further open the Chinese market to American companies. He will be accompanied by a delegation of business leaders, including Elon Musk and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

Prior to his departure, Trump had expressed optimism regarding US-China relations, emphasizing the benefits of strong cooperation. He also made it clear that he does not require China’s support regarding the conflict in Iran or in broader economic disputes. While acknowledging that many issues are on China’s agenda, Trump asserted that the situation in Iran is under control and therefore not necessarily part of the discussion. Despite his comments, many observers anticipate that the US President will still attempt to persuade Xi to exert pressure on Tehran, particularly concerning the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
