CDU Chancellor Friedrich Merz strongly condemned the recent wave of attacks launched by Russia against numerous targets across Ukraine. On Thursday, Merz stated that the severe Russian assaults mark a pattern of escalation rather than negotiation. He affirmed that despite Russia continuing its war efforts, Ukraine and its partners remain ready for discussions concerning a “just peace” and Germany continues to stand by the side of Ukraine.
Regarding the scale of the fighting, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russia employed 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types during the attacks over the past two days, targeting locations throughout the country.
Separately, Zelenskyy thanked Germany for its ongoing support. Writing on X, the Ukrainian president conveyed deep appreciation, stating that Germany has played a considerable role in assisting Ukraine’s defense against Russian terror. He highlighted that the air defense systems provided by Germany were crucial in saving thousands of lives. Furthermore, Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of continued, coordinated cooperation to strengthen Europe.
